Locations and studios

Film-makers love Prague for its fantastic locations. It is no accident that Prague is regarded as one of the ten most beautiful cities in the world. Its historic centre is well preserved and compact and contains stylistically pure streets and quarters. Prague is a unique conglomeration of all the major architectural styles: Gothic (churches, monasteries and houses), Baroque (cathedrals, palaces, terraced gardens, entire quarters and streets), extensive remains of the Jewish town with its famous Jewish cemetery and synagogues (Prague is the city of the Golem and Franz Kafka), Neo-Gothic and other historical movements of the 19th thcentury in the style of Paris or Vienna, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, modernism as represented by Constructivism and Cubist buildings unmatched anywhere in the world. Besides the well-known silhouettes of the Hradčany district above the river Vltava, Charles Bridge or the spires of the Týn Church, Prague is a city where industrial buildings and entire quarters have remained from the communist era and which contains totalitarian architectural monuments with a specific atmosphere of their own. Locations in Prague are much cheaper than comparable exteriors in other major European cities

Another advantage of shooting in Prague are the easily accessible natural exteriors, whether we are talking of the unspoilt countryside in southern Bohemia, the mountains in the north or the apocalyptic, industrial lunar landscape of the open-face mines in the northwest. The Austrian Alps or the Slovak Tatras, a mountain range similar to the Alps, are a day’s drive away. The nearest sea is in Slovenia, approx. 12 hours’ drive away. The rocky panorama and cliffs over the sea, with romantic, winding roads, makes it a suitable and popular location for “car shots”.

Prague offers many studios that can be rented, all of which satisfy diverse technical requirements: 7 Barrandov Studios, ranging from 360 m to 2000 m in size, including a visual effects studio, water tank etc.; Strahov Studio size 800 m; 4 Hostivař studios ranging from 500 m to 700 m in size; and there are also other studios and halls up to 4500 m in size.
